ARTIST BIO

My name is Laural Lawless, and I am an artist from Yarrawonga in North East Victoria.

I started painting again 9 years ago, under the tuition of a well-known and accomplished artist ‘Kate Gorman’. Today I paint full time and have exhibited both locally and interstate, in both group and solo exhibitions.

Art, to me, must evoke an emotional response from the viewer. It is an immediate feeling that captures ones attention, when first sighting a piece of Art.

In my mind, my style is contemporary/impressionist; i paint with spontaneity and try to retain brilliance of colour and texture. My medium of choice is acrylic as i like to paint rapidly and with enthusiasm. Acrylics also retain wonderful colours, drying quickly, enabling me to continue painting for as long as i choose. I try to capture the look and texture of oils without the lengthy time it takes to dry. When i paint i also try to capture the huge expanse of our beautiful country, this can only be done, in my opinion, on large canvases.

I have a love for the Australian landscape, which developed many years ago when my family owned and operated an outback hotel in Tibooburra, NSW.

A trip to the Flinders Ranges also inspired me to paint a series called "Wildflowers V & VI" and i have endeavoured to portray the natural beauty, colour and texture of the Wildflowers, which bring the normally rugged beauty of the area to life for a few short weeks each year.

Today I endeavor to capture the essence of this vast, beautiful and spiritual land of ours on canvas.
