ARTIST BIO

Gail was raised in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs and has been interested in and inspired by the arts from an early age. As a child, Gail would visit the studio of her great Aunt and Uncle who were both painters and sculptors, and admire her Grandparent's collection of antiques, fine porcelain, and silverwear whenever they weren't looking.  As far back as Gail can remember, she has always been drawing, and seen things a little different from those around her.

"I had my own vision even then.  But at that age, I didn't have the confidence or encouragement to pursue my own art form.  The turning point for me, artistically, was in my early twenties when I was living overseas.  With sketchpad in tow, I would travel all over Europe to the world's top galleries to view the paintings and sculptures of the masters.  It really opened my eyes."

Since then, Gail has applied her passion to various crafts along her artistic journey, including pottery, leather carving, tapestries, soft leather bags, tiffany lamp shades, water colour painting, and decoupage, before discovering her love of oil painting in 2008.

"My work tends to focus on the relationship between light, sky, and water---exploring big skies with rich movement, colour, and reflection.  Once I mix my colour and commence painting I forget all about time, eating and drinking, as I am so absorbed in what I am doing.  I can't and don't want to stop!"

As a member of the McClelland Guild of Artists, Two Bays Art Group, and the Peninsula Arts Society, Gail enjoys painting with other like-minded artists, a practice she has found to be extremely rewarding and fulfilling.

"I have met so many wonderful and talented people who have become dear friends.  It is such a pleasure to paint socially amidst them each week, learning from and inspiring each other, and sharing in something that we all love."

Gail's paintings are held in private collections throughout Australia, the UK, France, and Canada.  Her work can be viewed at The Guild Art Gallery locted within the Tyabb Craft Village, Two Bays Art Group---a mobile group of artists who set up art stands throughout the Mornington Peninsula and artists' website Gallery 247.

Gail continues to travel extensively, a pastime that offers an endless supply of subject matter to paint.
